The Lands Authority and the Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a Local Council have signed an agreement through which public land in Triq Santa Katarina, Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a, covering approximately 734 square metres, will be given to the Local Council for a period of five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister for Housing and Lands Owen Bonnici said that this agreement is another example of how the Government is continuing to work with Local Councils so that public land is used in the best possible way for the benefit of communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“When public land is given a new lease of life and used in a way that addresses the needs of the community, we are ensuring that the country’s resources are reaching where they can make the biggest difference. Local Councils are in the best position to identify the needs of their residents and therefore it is important that we continue to give them the support and space necessary to carry out their work,” said Minister Bonnici.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli explained how this agreement reflects the work being done to give Local Councils more space and tools to carry out projects that respond directly to the needs of their communities. \u201cThe work of Local Councils is crucial to continuing to improve the quality of life of our communities, and therefore we will continue to give them the necessary support to carry out concrete projects that make a difference in the lives of residents,\u201d said Minister Zerafa Civelli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a Mayor Scott Camilleri explained how this land will be transformed into a new garden, equipped with swings for the enjoyment of the residents of Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a. The land is located in a central location in the locality, opposite the Primary School, and therefore this project is expected to be enjoyed by many children and families. The Council thanked the Government for its commitment to ensure that more such spaces are regenerated and given back to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through this agreement, the Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a Local Council will be able to make better use of this public space and develop it into a new public garden for the benefit of residents. The project will provide a new recreational and rest space for the community, while contributing to a more beautiful, accessible and quality environment for the residents of Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also present for the signing were Permanent Secretary Ramon Deguara, Chief Executive of the Lands Authority Robert Vella, as well as the Executive Secretary of the Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a Local Council Jordy Brincat.<\/p>\n
