A total of 23 applicants who successfully completed all stages will receive €800,000 in support through the Arts Support Scheme, and nine other applicants will receive €440,000 through the recently launched Theatrical Productions Support Scheme.

Both schemes aim to support the development and presentation of high-quality artistic work while enhancing public access to diverse cultural experiences, and to initiatives that improve access to the arts.

The Arts Support Scheme helps transform artistic ideas into completed projects while supporting the creation and presentation of work, cultural programming, documentation, community-based projects and measures to make the arts more accessible.

The Theatre Productions Support Scheme was introduced this year and offers funding for the research, development and production of new and original theatre work. The scheme supports producers of theatre works throughout the creative process, from initial research through to production, presentation and audience engagement.

Announcing the results, Minister for Arts, Culture and National Heritage, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said that this investment reflects the national importance being given to culture. “As established in the Malta 2050 Vision, we consider culture to be essential to our national identity and to the type of society we wish to continue to build. This investment will provide 32 projects with the resources they need to develop, to reach audiences and to contribute to the cultural life of Malta. It also reflects the Government’s commitment to placing culture at the centre of national development by investing directly in artists, cultural professionals and organisations that support the sector. These measures will help us create more opportunities for more artistic work while enhancing public access to diverse cultural experiences.”

Dr Luke Dalli, Executive Chair of the Arts Council Malta, said, “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to creating clearer and more targeted opportunities for artists, cultural organisations and creative professionals. The strong response to both schemes has demonstrated the talent and potential that lies within Malta’s cultural and creative sectors. Through these two complementary funding schemes, we are investing not only in completed artistic and theatrical projects but also in the creative processes, experimentation and collaboration that make this work possible. More importantly, this investment strengthens the sector’s capacity to create valuable work and introduce new cultural experiences to audiences and communities in Malta.”

Both schemes form part of a revised funding structure introduced in 2026 by the Arts Council Malta. The Theatre Productions Support Scheme was established as a single scheme to distinguish support for new and original theatre productions from the wider range of artistic activity eligible under the Arts Support Scheme. The principles of the Right to Culture remain embedded in both schemes and in the wider funding portfolio of the Arts Council Malta. This investment also aligns with the Arts Council Malta’s Strategy 2030 by supporting creative potential, artistic excellence, sustainable professional practice and deeper connections between artists, audiences and communities.

For more information and all results, visit https://artscouncilmalta.gov.mt .

<g transform="translate(0,332) scale(0.1,-0.1)" fill="" stroke="none"></g>

Thirty-two artistic and theatrical projects will receive investment totalling €1.24 million through funding schemes from the Ministry for Arts, Culture and National Heritage, through the Arts Council Malta.
