The main square of Tarxien has been returned to residents and the community following an extensive beautification project that has transformed the heart of this village into a more modern area. This project was carried out by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works as part of a broader vision to design new infrastructure in the centres of localities that better serve the needs of the people, with new open spaces for the community as well as those using alternative means of transport.<\/p>\n

The project included new paving around the square with a local emblem in the centre, the reconstruction of underground services and infrastructural works to make the area more sustainable and strong for the future. Both the design and the materials used were designed to serve the needs of the village centre, including the fact that the road adjacent to this square is used by Tallinja which will continue to operate normally.<\/p>\n

Work on this project began immediately after last year’s Doctrine feast, with a clear commitment to have the square back to the people by this year’s Annunciation feast, a promise that has been kept. While the square can now be enjoyed by residents and the public, the final works on the surrounding roads will be finalised in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

An agreement has been signed between the Department of Public Works and the Tarxien Church for the installation of new lighting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett also announced the signing of an agreement between Public Works and the Archdiocese of Malta which will lead to the installation of a modern lighting system on the fa\u00e7ade, dome and side of the parish church, a system which will continue to enhance the architectural beauty of the church which dominates the square and centre of Tarxien.<\/p>\n

Minister Bonett recalled how a project like this \u201cenhances community life by creating a space where residents can meet, celebrate together and spend quality time in a beautiful and modern environment.\u201d He said that this project forms part of a series of works by Infrastructure Malta including Vjal Kul\u1e63ad, Pjazza ta’ Bu\u0121ibba and \u0120nien tal-Fajtata which will be providing beautiful new public spaces in various localities across Malta. \u201cAlthough this project presented a number of challenges, when you see the final result you understand how much every effort was worth,\u201d concluded Minister Bonett.<\/p>\n
