\u20ac5 million investment from European funds for the new John’s Co-Cathedral museum<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

An expansion and enhancement project for the new museum of the St John’s Co-Cathedral is being implemented with the aim of strengthening its cultural value and improving the visitor experience at this monument of international significance.<\/p>\n

With \u20ac5 million in support from European funds, this project aims to create a modern, accessible, and sustainable visitor experience, while ensuring the long-term conservation of important artistic and historical treasures.<\/p>\n

The project includes the construction of a new museum together with the restoration and adaptation of existing structures. This will allow important collections, including Flemish tapestries, sacred vestments, choral books, and works by Mattia Preti, to be displayed in an environment that meets the highest international standards. The museum will also feature new spaces such as the Tapestry Hall, as well as modern facilities and digital and educational technologies to enhance the visitor experience.<\/p>\n

Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, stated, “This project is a clear example of how European Funds are being used in a concrete way to protect and strengthen our cultural heritage. The \u20ac5 million investment from European Funds is not only contributing to the conservation of invaluable treasures but also creating a modern and accessible experience for everyone. This is an investment in culture, education, and quality of life, as well as in the sustainable tourism potential of our country.”<\/p>\n

Chief Executive Officer of the Cathedral Foundation, Tonio Mallia, stated, “This project represents an important step in the way we present and safeguard the unique heritage of the Cathedral. Through this investment, we will be creating new and modern spaces that not only preserve our collections according to international standards but also offer a more meaningful and educational experience for all visitors. It is a project that looks to the future while respecting the past.”<\/p>\n

The project also includes significant accessibility improvements, including the introduction of assistive technologies and modern facilities, ensuring that everyone, including persons with disabilities, can enjoy this national heritage.<\/p>\n

This investment reflects a continued commitment to the effective and strategic use of European funds to support the cultural sector, strengthen tourism, and contribute to Malta’s sustainable development.<\/p>\n
