The Government continued to invest in and strengthen the field of rehabilitation from drug and alcohol addictions, with the aim of reaching more people who wish to change the direction of their lives.<\/p>\n

The investment and service provided in our country is free, and this puts our country in a unique position when compared to other countries where these services are only provided for a fee.<\/p>\n

The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights continuously invests in Sedqa, Caritas and OASI in order to provide treatment and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

Another social agreement was sealed today with the OASI Foundation in Gozo, which currently hosts 12 residents undergoing a rehabilitation programme. The signed agreement amounts to \u20ac2.3 million over three years, an increase of almost 20% on the previous agreement.<\/p>\n

This agreement continues to build on its predecessor and covers three services: a residential program, community therapy and aftercare, while continuing to strengthen the prevention element.<\/p>\n

Minister Michael Falzon appealed to those who are going through the challenges of addiction, to seek help and invest in themselves because there really are services that are capable of helping that individual get back on their feet. \u201cDuring the last few years that I have led this Ministry, I have been able to feel the pain, the burden and the heartbreak of victims of addiction, with which those closest to them drown. I have also seen success stories where people have found their lives again, built families and even personal businesses,\u201d stated Minister Michael Falzon.<\/p>\n

OASI Chief Executive Officer, Noel Scerri praised the Government’s commitment in this area, so that such services can be possible. He spoke about the need for long-term support for rehabilitation programmes that eventually serve as a foundation and the first step for that person who is finding and rebuilding their life again.<\/p>\n
