The Government has launched an enhanced version of the Get Qualified scheme, an initiative that has achieved significant success in recent years and is now being aligned with the ambitious objectives of Malta Vision 2050.<\/p>\n
Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri explained that through this scheme, administered by Malta Enterprise, the Government will continue to invest in human capital by supporting young people and employees in acquiring and upgrading their skills.<\/p>\n
“Through the Get Qualified scheme, we are providing workers with a tangible opportunity to invest in themselves, while benefiting from up to 70% reimbursement in tax credits on their study expenses,” stated Minister Schembri.<\/p>\n
The scheme will remain in effect until 31 December 2030, ensuring long-term stability and certainty for both students and industry.<\/p>\n
Modernization to Meet Evolving Economic Needs<\/p>\n
The scheme will continue to support eligible individuals who successfully complete approved courses, while being modernized to better reflect current labor market realities and industry needs.<\/p>\n
Its key objectives include:<\/p>\n

Stronger alignment with national economic priorities<\/li>\n
Promotion of industry-relevant studies<\/li>\n
Increased focus on STEM subjects<\/li>\n
Integration of the Higher Qualification Scheme<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Stronger and Expanded Incentives<\/p>\n
Under the new scheme:<\/p>\n

Support will continue to be provided through tax credits on eligible expenses<\/li>\n
An additional fiscal bonus will be introduced for qualifications in STEM fields<\/li>\n
Support will also be extended to individuals completing doctoral-level studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Minister Schembri added: “Following the launch of Malta Vision 2050, the natural next step is to build a workforce equipped with advanced skills. This will enable us to increase the value added of our economy and enhance national productivity.”<\/p>\n
New Measures to Reduce Bureaucracy and Improve Accessibility<\/p>\n
Get Qualified 2026 also introduces several important improvements:<\/p>\n
\n
Extension of the tax credit utilization period to 15 years<\/li>\n
Eligibility to benefit from tax credits for up to four courses over a five-year period<\/li>\n
A fairer system based on ECTS or learning hours<\/li>\n
Reduced bureaucracy through direct agreements with educational institutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
These measures are designed to make the scheme more accessible, efficient, and aligned with the realities of modern education.<\/p>\n
