{"id":56063,"date":"2026-03-18T07:28:42","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T06:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/livenewsmalta.com\/?p=56063"},"modified":"2026-03-18T07:28:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T06:28:42","slug":"minister-attard-announces-buy-sustainable-property-scheme-for-second-consecutive-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/livenewsmalta.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/18\/minister-attard-announces-buy-sustainable-property-scheme-for-second-consecutive-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister Attard announces Buy Sustainable Property scheme for second consecutive year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u20ac200,000 in grants have already been distributed to first-year applicants For the second consecutive year, the Buy Sustainable Property scheme has been launched, through which those who will purchase a property that complies with sustainability standards will be receiving a grant of between \u20ac4,500 and \u20ac9,000 divided over the next three years.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> This was announced at a press conference, at the offices of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), by the Minister for Justice and Construction Sector Reform Jonathan Attard and the Chief Executive of the Building and Construction Authority, Architect Roderick Bonnici.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Minister Jonathan Attard said that this scheme is one of a series of initiatives that the Government is undertaking so that more people become homeowners and at the same time continue the path towards the Malta 2050 Vision when it comes to sustainability.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In fact, this scheme aligns with the macro measure 30 of the Vision where the Government is issuing fiscal incentives and schemes so that we have more sustainable properties.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0At this conference it was stated that those who have purchased sustainable properties from 1 October 2025 will be able to qualify for this scheme which will remain open until 30 September.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The new owners of properties that are classified as Net Zero, or rather those properties that generate more energy than they need, will be receiving the amount of \u20ac3,000 per year, over three years, for a total of \u20ac9,000.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Those whose property is 20% better than that required by European standards, will be receiving a grant of \u20ac1,500 per year, for the next three years, with a total of \u20ac4,500.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> \u201cThrough this scheme, we are creating a direct incentive for citizens to invest in buildings that consume less energy and that embrace higher sustainability standards. All this will be leading to a number of benefits for citizens with lower energy bills, and a more limited environmental impact,\u201d said Minister Attard.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> The Minister also referred to other schemes that the Authority is issuing including the \u2018Irrinova Darek\u2019 scheme which was also issued for the second time earlier this year.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Regarding the \u2018Buy Sustainable Property\u2019 scheme, the Minister said that out of around 200 applications in the first year of the scheme, around \u20ac200,000 has already been issued as the first payment.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Chief Executive of the Building and Construction Authority, Architect Roderick Bonnici, explained that with each application the final property purchase contract and the Energy Performance Certificate of the building as built must be submitted and therefore not the one based on the building\u2019s design.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He also said that there can only be one application per building, and one application per person.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u201cIn recent years, the Building and Construction Authority has been a catalyst for ensuring that the existing building stock and that which is being built is sustainable and meets European standards. In fact, the authority has set up a dedicated section in recent years to ensure the sustainability of the same building. Through this second call for Buy Sustainable Property, we are going a step further and that is to help those who are going to buy a property to be more sustainable and to use less energy,\u201d
