Darmanin having commenced a few weeks ago.

During the visit, Minister Miriam Dalli highlighted how continued investment in essential infrastructure is key to strengthening communities and ensuring sustainable development. “Ensuring that our infrastructure is future-proof and addresses future needs of our communities is essential for both environmental sustainability and quality of life. Projects like these are building resilience into our systems and investing in the long-term wellbeing of residents and businesses alike,” said Minister Dalli.

She added that the Government remains committed to modernising water infrastructure across Malta and Gozo through strategic investments that improve efficiency, reduce the risk of disruptions, and safeguard the country’s water resources.

“These works in Kirkop form part of a wider national effort to continue strengthening the water and sewage networks that serve our localities. By continuing to invest in these essential systems, we are ensuring that communities benefit from more reliable services while we continue to protect the environment and support sustainable growth for the years ahead,” Minister Dalli said.

Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia said that for several years, residents of Ħal Kirkop suffered from a major flooding problem following heavy rainfall. “Today, through synergy between the Public Works Department and the Water Services Corporation, we are proceeding with the third phase of this project, in order to collect a large amount of rainwater. This project is clear evidence of the Government’s commitment to continue improving road infrastructure, thereby safeguarding the health and safety of residents and drivers who use these roads.”

The potable water works involve the installation of a 100mm diameter potable water main along a stretch of 700 metres and form part of the Water Services Corporation’s continued efforts to strengthen the reliability and efficiency of Malta’s potable water distribution network.

Meanwhile, the sewage network upgrade involves works with an investment of around €1 million. The project includes the installation of a 600mm diameter sewage main along a 305-metre stretch in Triq Danny Cremona, the installation of a 250mm diameter sewage main along a 200-metre stretch through Triq Ir-Ramlija, and the installation of a 200mm diameter sewage main along a 400-metre stretch through Triq il-Belt Valletta.

From the Public Works Department’s end, approximately 640 metres of pipes will be installed, with diameters ranging between 400 and 700 millimetres, and these will be connected to the network that has already been completed in Triq San Pietru.

Photos (DOI/MEEC/MTIP_PS)

<g transform="translate(0,332) scale(0.1,-0.1)" fill="" stroke="none"></g>

Minister for the Environment and Energy Miriam Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia visited ongoing infrastructure works in Kirkop, which include upgrades to the Water Services Corporation’s potable water and sewage networks, as well as works being carried out by the Public Works Department.
