The Government is continuing to strengthen its commitment to the future of the agricultural sector through a scheme aimed at supporting young farmers and encouraging more young people to enter farming through concrete opportunities and substantial financial support.<\/p>\n
During a farm visit to a young farmer in \u017bebbu\u0121, by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo and the Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, it was highlighted how this scheme is having a direct impact on the lives of young people who are choosing farming as a career and investment for the future. This visit served as a concrete example of how agricultural policy is translating into real opportunities in rural communities.<\/p>\n
This initiative is not just a financial scheme, but a clear message of confidence in the new generations and their potential to create real and sustainable opportunities in the Maltese agricultural sector. Although a number of young people attend agricultural courses in our country, relatively few choose to enter farming due to financial and administrative challenges, coupled with the perception of limited earnings and long working hours.<\/p>\n
Minister Anton Refalo said that, \u201cThis is not just a financial scheme, but it is also a clear message that we believe in the new generations and their potential to create real opportunities in the agricultural sector. This scheme has been designed to address these challenges by offering direct support to young farmers who wish to start a new agricultural business or take over existing agricultural operations. The financial assistance can reach up to \u20ac100,000 for each eligible applicant, which includes an initial payment of \u20ac80,000 for the implementation of an approved Business Plan, together with additional top-ups of \u20ac10,000 or \u20ac20,000 depending on the respective farmer category.\u201d<\/p>\n
He concluded by saying that this aid not only helps farmers overcome initial challenges, but is making the agricultural sector more attractive, innovative and efficient, while encouraging much-needed generational renewal.<\/p>\n
Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, said that this initiative shows how European Funds are being translated into concrete benefits for Maltese farmers. He explained that through this substantial allocation, farmers are being given the necessary support to strengthen their operations and continue to modernise their farms. \u201cThis is a concrete way in which we are investing European funds in young farmers, with the aim of giving them opportunities for success in this sector.\u201d<\/p>\n
Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi added that this investment is contributing to a more stable production of fresh food and a more secure local supply, while continuing to build a sustainable agricultural sector capable of responding to the challenges of the future.<\/p>\n
Through this scheme, the Government is demonstrating in a concrete way how European funds are being used effectively and responsibly to strengthen rural communities and ensure long-term sustainable development. The collaboration between the different Ministries is leading to concrete results that continue to strengthen the Maltese agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
