Investment in educational infrastructure continues with an investment of \u20ac15 million through which the Qormi (St. George) Primary School is being extensively extended and beautified at St. Ignatius College. The project will see modern, accessible and comfortable educational spaces, with an environment suitable for students and educators.<\/p>\n
“This is another ongoing project to continue to ensure that the educational environment in which our students and educators spend a long time is one that is suitable for today’s times,” remarked the Minister for Education, Sports, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, when he visited the work being done by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools this morning.<\/p>\n
The project involves extensive beautification, as well as the construction of a reduced storey on the existing building, which is located in a two-storey building and was built in the first half of the 20th Century, and is now around a hundred years old. The school will be completely modernised and beautified.<\/p>\n
The project will see the necessary changes made to make the building accessible to all, with over thirty classrooms, including kindergarten classrooms, as well as classrooms for specific subjects including art and music, a nurture room, multi-sensory rooms, a psycho-social room, and a Personal, Social and Career Development classroom. The school will also have a hall with a separate entrance that will be used by the local community after school hours, and a childcare centre.<\/p>\n
The project also includes the redevelopment of the school grounds, which will be covered with artificial turf and will also have designated shaded areas. A reduced floor is being constructed on the existing building to create space for the administration of St. Ignatius College.<\/p>\n
The project involves the replacement of old roofs, the installation of new services, including electricity, water, sewage, CCTV, internet connection, alarms, and fire safety services. Several measures will be introduced in the building that will improve energy efficiency. The project will be carried out in phases to ensure that the school remains operational at all times. With this project, the new school will have space to accommodate approximately 400 children.<\/p>\n
“Investment in the educational structure is an ongoing project, with several other projects, including new schools in Mellie\u0127a and Naxxar, and the beautification and complete regeneration of schools in Birkirkara, and in Ker\u010bem in Gozo. This is in addition to the maintenance work carried out throughout the year in schools. The transformation in the sector is spread across all levels, even when it comes to the educational environment,” concluded Minister Clifton Grima.<\/p>\n
