A historic shelter currently under the responsibility of the Lands Authority has been transferred on a leasehold basis for a period of five years to the \u017burrieq Local Council. The property is located at No. 1, Triq il-Kbira, \u017burrieq and occupies an area of \u200b\u200bapproximately 57m\u00b2.<\/p>\n

Through this transfer, the Local Council will be able to maintain and conserve the shelter as a site of historical and cultural importance, with the aim of transforming it into an educational and community attraction that commemorates the collective memory of the country and the sacrifices of those who lived through the war.<\/p>\n

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici said that this project is a significant step towards preserving what makes our country unique. \u201cThis project shows how, through collaboration between government entities and local councils, we can turn historical sites into places of information and opportunity for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chief Executive of the Lands Authority, Robert Vella, explained that this transfer is part of the Authority’s commitment to ensure that public properties of historical value are operated in a sustainable manner and for the benefit of the community. He stated that through this lease, the site will be protected, maintained and enhanced while remaining accessible to the public.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of the \u017burrieq Local Council, Rita Grima, said, “The Shelter located in Triq il-Kbira has been transferred to the Local Council. After the necessary cleaning is done, it will be opened so that the people of \u017burrieq can enjoy it and some activities can be held inside.”<\/p>\n

The transfer was signed by the Chief Executive of the Lands Authority, Robert Vella, Rita Grima as the Mayor of the \u017burrieq Local Council and Executive Secretary Josianne Cilia Mumford.<\/p>\n
