Our plan is to open this project in different phases. There are various works that need to be carried out because we want this project to also connect with San Klement Park, creating one of the largest and most attractive open spaces in the Fgura area, which is a very densely populated locality. Work is ongoing and our plan is to maintain this pace so that we can deliver the first phase of the project as quickly as possible,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.

Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi stated that, through an investment of around €2.8 million supported by European funds, the District Park project will give new life to more than 40,000 square metres of open public space. He explained that the intervention will provide a safe and accessible environment for the community, with facilities for children, relaxation areas, and a pedestrian link connecting Fgura with the Cottonera area, while development will be based on principles of sustainability and the protection of the natural environment.

The works have been underway for several months and have continued to advance. Construction is in progress on reservoirs that will be used for garden irrigation, as well as works related to underground services beneath the pathways, including CCTV cabling, and general site cleaning. Work is also currently being carried out to build a staircase that will connect parts of San Klement Park with District Park.

The project will also include a dedicated children’s area with new, safe equipment suitable for different age groups, allowing children to play and socialise together. There will also be a picnic area with benches and shade from newly planted trees.

In the vicinity of the Bormla gate, a sump has been built to collect rainwater that normally accumulates in this area. Instead of being lost, this water will be collected, filtered, and reused as part of the water reserve supply, in a sustainable and responsible manner.

Photo: MEEC_MFI

<g transform="translate(0,332) scale(0.1,-0.1)" fill="" stroke="none"></g>

Work is progressing at a good pace on an open-space project covering more than 40,000 square metres in the Fgura area.
