Brej\u0121u Garden in \u017bejtun has been given a new life following an intervention funded by the Local Government Division scheme.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The infrastructural intervention was carried out with an investment of \u20ac180,000 which included, among other things, a children\u2019s area, and the renovation of other areas in the garden including the planting of trees and shrubs.<\/span><\/span> The new recreational area within the garden has been named after Dun An\u0121 Seychell.<\/span><\/span> Dun An\u0121 was one of \u017bejtun\u2019s greatest benefactors, a man of great heart and a priest who dedicated his life to helping vulnerable people and those with disabilities.<\/span><\/span> His legacy of love, generosity and service to others will remain an inspiration.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

During a visit by the Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, it was stated that although this garden is smaller than others, it is of great importance to the \u017bejtun community because it offers, among other things, a place of relaxation for families and the elderly.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Minister Owen Bonnici praised the wisdom and vision of this Local Council which, through serious planning and good use of available funds, has managed to implement a project that responds in a concrete way to the needs of the community.<\/span><\/span> He said that initiatives such as these show how Local Councils can be instrumental in improving public spaces and strengthening the social and environmental life of the locality.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that through various schemes of the Local Government Division, they are providing unprecedented financial support to Local Councils when it comes to infrastructural projects and even cultural activities.<\/span><\/span> \u201cIt is gratifying to see Local Councils taking the initiative to beautify their locality. This in \u017bejtun is a clear example of how Local Councils can make a difference in people\u2019s lives, and here particularly in the lives of children as this project is aimed particularly at children,\u201d said Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She concluded by appealing for more Local Councils to come forward with their initiatives and projects so that these same projects help to strengthen and well-being of communities as listed in the Malta 2050 Vision. Meanwhile, the Mayor of \u017bejtun, Joan Agius, thanked the Ministry and the Parliamentary Secretariat for their intervention so that this project could happen.<\/span><\/span> She said that this garden was established back in the eighties and is named after Consiglio Ellul who was known by the nickname of Brej\u0121u, and was an important personage in \u017bejtun.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
