During 2025, the Foundation for Schools of Tomorrow (FTS) carried out beautification projects in the recreational spaces of several schools. FTS beautified these spaces through environmental maintenance as well as the installation of new artificial turf.<\/p>\n
These projects were carried out with an investment of approximately \u20ac1,341,535. The two largest projects were those of 7 grounds at Gozo College, Primary and Middle School, with a value of almost \u20ac800,000, as well as at St. George Preca College, Secondary School and Lyceum, \u0126amrun, with a value of over \u20ac200,000. In these schools, existing grounds were covered with artificial turf.<\/p>\n
During the inauguration of the \u0126amrun Lyceum grounds, the Minister for Education, Sports, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, spoke about the importance being given to schools across the country, not only with infrastructural work, but also with the beautification of sports and recreational spaces in various schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are giving importance to the well-being of our students, as stated in the National Strategy for Education 2024\u20132030. We are doing this by ensuring that, in addition to the work being done at a national level in the sports sector, even in Schools and Educational Institutions, the facilities used for recreation have a more appropriate environment in terms of sports and recreational space,\u201d said Minister Grima. \u201cWe are continuing to work on programs and initiatives to give more importance to sports and physical activity, but we are also ensuring that with these projects we provide better spaces for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the past year, apart from the two schools mentioned, there was investment in recreational and physical activity spaces in several schools, including: St. George’s College Preca Primary School in Hamrun; St. George’s College Preca Primary School in Valletta; St. Clare’s College Primary School in Pembroke; St. Clare’s College Primary School in St. Julian’s; St. Ignatius College Primary School in \u017bebbu\u0121 and St. Thomas More College Primary School in \u017bejtun.<\/p>\n
“We are ensuring that open spaces are adequate so that students have better spaces in which they can practice sports and do physical exercises. With this investment, we are not only improving the environment where students and children can recreate and do physical exercise, but we are also giving importance to their mental and social well-being,” concluded Minister Clifton Grima.<\/p>\n
