Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli together with the Director General for Local Government, Emile Vassallo announced investment in a number of projects that will be carried out by Local Councils across Malta and Gozo.<\/p>\n

Through these projects, the quality of life and the health of our communities will continue to be strengthened. In recent years, this scheme has been launched for local councils throughout Malta and Gozo so that the same Councils can come forward with projects that improve the lives of residents in their respective localities.<\/p>\n

The allocation for this year will be almost \u20ac3,200,000 through which councils will carry out projects that go hand in hand with the objectives of the scheme. Among the main objectives are the goals of social sustainability, accessibility and inclusion, while increasing investment in air quality and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that the projects submitted will prioritise the physical and mental health of residents, as well as open spaces. She said that the role of Local Government is to improve the quality of life of residents by providing essential services and infrastructure that enhance the living environment in the community.<\/p>\n

“For another year we are re-issuing this scheme, against the backdrop of other schemes, in order to continue to support Local Councils so that they can continue to fulfil their mission of providing a better quality of life to residents in our localities. This goes hand in hand with the Malta 2050 Vision. Among these projects we are placing emphasis on open spaces and recreational facilities for Maltese and Gozitan families,” Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli stated.<\/p>\n

The Parliamentary Secretary concluded by saying that with a record allocation for this scheme, we are seeing how the Government is continuing to make a difference in the lives of our communities. She also thanked the Local Council workers for their role a few days ago when our country was hit by a major storm, as well as asserting that today the Local Councils have become a living engine of our society with the services they offer, the activities they organise and the projects they undertake.<\/p>\n

Director General for Local Government, Emile Vassallo, said that the Division is re-launching this funding scheme so that Local Councils are in a better position to carry out projects or initiatives to help their communities be stronger.<\/p>\n

He went on to explain that through this scheme effective services will be offered such as free transport for residents, improvements to places to make them more accessible for persons with disabilities, as well as physical exercise machines in public places, among many other projects.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, through this scheme, 45 projects will be carried out, of which 12 projects will be carried out on the island of Gozo. The projects consist of the development and support of open spaces, beautification, new infrastructure and more works from which residents are expected to benefit.<\/p>\n

The localities that benefited from these funds are, Attard, Balzan, Mosta, Birkirkara, G\u017cira, G\u0127arg\u0127ur, Lija, Msida, Swieqi, Valletta, Senglea, Bormla, \u017babbar, Fgura, Floriana, Paola, Tarxien, Xg\u0127ajra, Qormi, Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a, Gudja, \u0126amrun, Marsa, Marsaxlokk, Santa Lu\u010bija, Santa Venera, Si\u0121\u0121iewi, Kirkop, Imqabba, Qrendi, Rabat, Safi, Mtarfa, Fontana, G\u0127ajnsielem, G\u0127arb, G\u0127asri, Ta’ Ker\u010bem, Munxar, Nadur, Qala, Ta’ Sannat, Xag\u0127ra, Xewkija and \u017bebbu\u0121 Gozo.<\/p>\n
