Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has launched the new national scheme “Irrestawra Darek u l-Village”, which will be open to properties in Urban Conservation Areas (UCAs) throughout Malta and Gozo. This scheme, which will be spread across six regions, will have a total allocation of \u20ac30 million.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the scheme is being opened for the Western Region, which includes localities such as Mdina, \u017bebbu\u0121, Si\u0121\u0121iewi, Dingli, Kirkop, Mqabba, Qrendi, Rabat, Safi and \u017burrieq.<\/p>\n
Minister Clint Camilleri stated that, \u201cThrough this new scheme we are continuing to invest in our historical and cultural heritage, in the quality of life of residents, and in the conservation of buildings that make our localities unique. \u2018Restore Your Home and Village\u2019 not only helps to preserve these buildings, but is also a direct investment in our communities, in every region of Malta and Gozo, thus ensuring that our architectural identity continues to be preserved and appreciated by future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The scheme will be gradually opened until it covers all six regions in the Maltese islands. For the Western Region it is opening today 28 January 2026, for the Southern Region in February 2026, for the Gozo region in March 2026, for the Port Region in April 2026, for the Northern Region in May 2026 and for the Eastern Region in June 2026.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Executive Chairman of the Planning Authority, Johann Buttigieg, said, \u201cWith this scheme, we are reaffirming our commitment to protecting the architectural heritage and identity of Maltese and Gozitan villages, thereby continuing to strengthen our communities for future generations and ensuring that this scheme achieves the desired outcome. We are pleased that this scheme applies not only to private residences but also to those buildings that house non-governmental organisations which are a crucial part of the heart of every community.\u201d<\/p>\n
This initiative is designed to further encourage the restoration and preservation of architectural heritage within Urban Conservation Areas, and provide substantial financial assistance to property owners.<\/p>\n
In fact, the maximum funding per beneficiary will be as follows:<\/p>\n
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that through this scheme, the Government is continuing to strengthen its commitment to preserving the cultural identity of our communities, promoting urban regeneration, and boosting the local economy through direct investment in properties and restoration works.<\/p>\n
Over the past 30 years, the Planning Authority has awarded over \u20ac33 million in schemes of this type, or similar, and through this scheme, a further \u20ac30 million will be awarded in six months. Since 2017 there have been over 4,000 submissions.<\/p>\n
This scheme is open to those who own buildings in Urban Conservation Areas, and applies not only to private residences but also to buildings that house non-governmental organizations, commercial buildings and churches which are a crucial part of the heart of every community.<\/p>\n
