During a press conference at Malta International Airport, where it was announced that in two years\u2019 time the airport will have a new 6,000-square-metre air terminal, Prime Minister Robert Abela referred to the transformation currently underway at the international airport. This transformation is being carried out through strong, high-quality private investment that is being supported and sustained by the Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter inaugurating the Priority Guest Terminal last summer, today we are going into the details of another investment of very great importance, the East Expansion. This project reflects what we can achieve when public institutions and private enterprise work together,\u201d said the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

He underlined the strategic importance of the Malta International Airport as a pillar of national progress. \u201cFor Malta, our airport is more than a gateway, it is a vital engine of growth, tourism, trade, and international engagement. It is often the first and last impression visitors take with them, and it plays a central role in how we present ourselves to the world,\u201d Dr Abela added.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Abela described the East Expansion as particularly significant project, forming part of a long-term commitment to quality, resilience, and future readiness. Adding that this development is not simply about expanding physical space, but it is rather about raising the standards and improving efficiency as we prepare our country for the opportunities ahead.<\/p>\n

Robert Abela noted that the initiative closely aligns with Malta Vision 2050, the long-term national framework which is set to be officially launched in the coming weeks, following months of nationwide consultation. The Malta Vision 2050 prioritises aviation and tourism while highlighting the important of smart investment in strategic infrastructure, stronger international connectivity, environmental responsibility, and a high quality of life for future generations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe East Expansion strengthens Malta\u2019s regional hub status and translates these priorities into practical outcomes. Such investments send a powerful message that Malta believes in planning ahead, building for future generations, and competing with confidence on the international stage,\u201d affirmed Prime Minister Abela.<\/p>\n

At the end of the conference, in the presence of the Malta International Airport CEO Alan Borg, Prime Minister Robert Abela reiterated the Government\u2019s commitment to continue supporting initiatives that strengthen connectivity and attract investment, while at the same time creating high-quality careers for Maltese and Gozitan workers.<\/p>\n
