The Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment has officially launched the Police Patrolling Community Support Officers (PPCSOs) service, a new initiative that reinforces the government\u2019s commitment to a police force that is closer to the people and more present in communities.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

PPCSOs play a crucial role in being a visible, accessible and reassuring presence in localities, by working alongside the Police Force in communities with local councils, schools, organisations and other community entities.<\/span><\/span> Their main objective is to be present in the community through continuous patrols, addressing daily challenges, intervening early in situations of anti-social behaviour, offering safety advice and strengthening the relationship between the citizen and the police service.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

This role was first proposed in the Budget and after the necessary amendments were made to the law, the first call was issued.<\/span><\/span> Through this process, the Police Force today has its first 34 PPCSOs in service.<\/span><\/span> This initiative is fully aligned with the Police Force\u2019s Corporate Strategy and with the investment announced in the Budget, which prioritizes human resources, training and prevention.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Through this role, the government is continuing to strengthen its vision of a police force that is not just an enforcement force, but a modern, efficient service with a strong sense of presence in the community.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri said, \u201cPPCSOs represent the core of our vision for a police force that is closer to the people. These are officers who listen, understand and act before problems escalate. By investing in this service, we are building safer, more united and stronger communities, reducing and keeping crime rates low, while strengthening trust between citizens and institutions.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Police Commissioner Angelo Gaf\u00e0 explained that the introduction of PPCSOs is not an isolated initiative, but an essential part of a broader vision and clear strategy that focuses on Safer Communities \u2013 Smarter Policing based on the needs of our communities.<\/span><\/span> \u201cWe currently have 170 officers assigned to Community Policing Teams, including 34 Patrol & Community Support Officers. As we continue to implement our vision, we remain determined to keep our country among the safest in the world.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The ministry thanked all PPCSOs for their commitment and dedication, while wishing them every success in the important work they will be carrying out in the heart of Maltese and Gozitan communities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
