The final preparations are underway at the Kirkop Sports Complex for another edition of the national L-istrina marathon to be held on Boxing Day, which will allow the Malta Community Chest Fund to continue helping all those in need.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday morning, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, visited the Sports Complex where she followed the ongoing work and met with workers, both from the Office of the President, the Malta Community Chest Fund as well as workers from private companies who offered their assistance in the set-up and preparations of the venue.<\/p>\n
Like last year, the Istrina will be opened at noon by the President of Malta, accompanied by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Opposition Leader Alex Borg and the Archbishop of Malta, Monsignor Charles J. Scicluna.<\/p>\n
The broadcast will continue until midnight on all major stations, and throughout the day there will be entertainment from band players from different musical groups brought together by the National Band Clubs Association, as well as activities led by television personalities, and interviews with people who have needed the help of the Malta Community Chest Fund.<\/p>\n
Throughout the day, President Myriam Spiteri Debono will be assisting with the collection as needed, while several volunteers will be taking calls from the public. Individuals and companies who have made their collections, either privately or during events organised throughout the year, will be able to present cheques.<\/p>\n
The President will also visit Gozo, at around 3.30pm, to receive donations from Gozitan individuals and companies. This year, unlike previous years, the celebration of L-istrina in Gozo will take place at the entrance to Bethlehem in G\u0127ajnsielem, which traditional activity is also being held in aid of the work of the Malta Community Chest Fund.<\/p>\n
This year too, a number of hairdressers are once again offering their services for free, and will be at the Kirkop Sports Complex to cut the hair of those who wish to donate it to the Malta Community Chest Fund.<\/p>\n
This hair is used to make wigs for those who lose their hair due to cancer treatment or other medical conditions, and the Malta Community Chest Fund will need between four and six hair donations for each wig.<\/p>\n
Hair must be at least 30 centimetres long and free of chemicals, and those wishing to donate hair are asked to make an appointment by calling 7969 0754\/ 2169 0754.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, those who wish to start donating can do so even before Easter. Donation lines are open, and one can offer \u20ac25 by calling 51802012, \u20ac50 by calling 51902030 or via SMS for a donation of \u20ac11.65 by calling 50619201. Other donations, of any amount, can be sent directly via the BOVMobile or MyAPS apps, on 79359565.<\/p>\n
On Easter Sunday, the pledge line will also be open, on the number 21262626, where one can call to make a donation and Malta Community Chest Fund volunteers will collect it throughout the day.<\/p>\n
