Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, visited the elderly in a private residential home, one of many where the Government purchases beds to accommodate the elderly. In fact, in the private sector, the Government has bed purchase agreements and partnerships between the Government and the private sector which lead to the Government having almost 4,000 beds to accommodate more elderly people who receive care and protection in nursing homes across the country.<\/p>\n

During their visit to Porziuncola Home, they met with the elderly and wished them a happy holiday, while all the elderly were given a gift to help them with their daily needs. The Prime Minister noted the important services offered to the elderly by workers and professionals. Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that the Government is committed to ensuring that every elderly person living in a residential home, whether public or private, is given the best possible level of care. He explained that this is why next year the authorities will launch new regulatory standards for public consultation. Dr Abela said that the aim of these regulations is to continue to strengthen the quality of the service offered to our elderly.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Robert Abela noted that for the coming year, the budget allocated in the Budget approved by Parliament on Tuesday includes an \u20ac83 million investment for residential care in private homes. He said that this investment reflects the importance that the Government attaches to collaboration with private operators to offer high-quality, sustainable services that meet national care standards. This investment is in addition to public-private partnerships with residential care operators.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Robert Abela and Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Paul Agius Galea spoke to the elderly and their relatives who were also visiting them. They recounted different experiences including those they lived through during these Christmas times. The residents of Porziuncola Home live in a modern residential home managed by Golden Care and form part of a network of facilities that offer professional, safe and dignity-focused care.<\/p>\n

The home is equipped with modern facilities and spaces designed to meet the diverse needs of the elderly, including those requiring ongoing care or specialized support. The operation of this home is managed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team that works on a 24-hour basis.<\/p>\n
