Residents of five other localities will be provided with services by the Cleaning and Maintenance Department (CMD).<\/p>\n

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Cleanliness Glenn Bedingfield announced that the Division has started providing a service in residential streets in Sliema and St Julian’s in recent days, while at the beginning of next year a service will begin to be provided in the localities of \u017bejtun, Mosta and Dingli.<\/p>\n

With these new agreements with the aforementioned Local Councils, the CMD is intervening daily in the residential streets of 34 localities and directly impacting the lives of approximately 250,000 residents in these localities.<\/p>\n

Parliamentary Secretary Bedingfield said that discussions with the respective Local Councils had been ongoing for several months on how this service could be provided and that he is satisfied that more Local Councils are showing confidence in the unit for which he is politically responsible. Glenn Bedingfield said, \u201cThe decision of the Local Councils reflects the decision of the people in the respective localities whose aim is to improve the quality of life. The CMD is in a position to provide an efficient service because it believes in the highest level of quality of life and works to improve it\u201d. This can be done because the CMD is investing in more resources and machinery as our country’s economy is strong enough to make such an investment.<\/p>\n

“These agreements are testament to how, through joint work with local councils, we can deliver concrete solutions that make a real difference in the daily lives of residents. We will continue to invest in resources, planning and technology to have cleaner, more beautiful and more sustainable localities. After all, a clean environment means healthier communities and a better quality of life for everyone,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.<\/p>\n

Director General of the Cleaning and Maintenance Division Ramon Deguara emphasised the CMD’s ongoing commitment to making our country cleaner and more orderly. “The aim is for every part of the country to reflect a culture of respect and responsibility, where every person contributes to maintaining an environment that is a source of honour and pride for everyone, those who live here and even those who come to visit us.”<\/p>\n
