The newly appointed Malta Vision 2050 Steering Committee held its first meeting yesterday, marking an important milestone in shaping the country\u2019s long-term strategic direction.<\/p>\n
Chaired by the Head of Secretariat at the Office of the Prime Minister, Col. Dr Mark Mallia, the meeting underscored that Malta Vision 2050 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to define a national direction that rises above electoral cycles and sectoral boundaries. Dr Mallia stressed that the Vision must reflect Malta\u2019s strengths and challenges while preparing the country for global megatrends, and highlighted the need for consistent commitment across government, the private sector, and society.<\/p>\n
Permanent Secretary for Malta Vision 2050, Ronald Mizzi, presented an update on progress made since the publication of the draft Vision document last April. He noted that the Vision has entered a crucial refinement phase following one of the Government\u2019s most extensive consultation processes, involving thousands of citizens, businesses, youth groups, NGOs, academics, Ministries and Government entities, and local councils. This feedback is now informing revisions to the macro measures, KPIs and trajectories, ensuring the Vision becomes an actionable roadmap capable of guiding policy decisions in the years ahead.<\/p>\n
Addressing the Committee, the Principal Permanent Secretary, Tony Sultana, praised the public administration\u2019s professionalism and coordination throughout the Vision 2050 process. He emphasised that a forward-looking public service remains central to developing and implementing a long-term national vision.<\/p>\n
The Steering Committee, established under the Office of the Prime Minister, is tasked with overseeing the Vision implementation and that it remains aligned with Malta\u2019s long-term aspirations.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, members were also briefed about the progress on the new reporting and accountability system that will track implementation through structured data capture and real-time reporting. A public-facing digital dashboard is also being developed to enhance transparency and trust, with initial wireframes presented to the Committee.<\/p>\n
Members were further briefed on the nationwide information campaign supporting the consultation process and on preparations for the new Malta Brand, to be launched after the final Vision for international positioning.<\/p>\n
The Committee welcomed the substantial work completed so far and reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and data-driven approach as the drafting of the final Malta Vision 2050 continues. Regular meetings will ensure the Vision remains aligned with national priorities and reflects the aspirations of present and future generations.<\/p>\n
