\u00a0At a Cabinet meeting of Ministers open to the public at the MFCC in Ta\u2019 Qali during the Techxpo, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a new national public consultation that will open on the Government\u2019s updated strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI).<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The Prime Minister explained how Malta was already proactive when seven years ago it was one of the first countries in the European Union to launch a national AI strategy.<\/span><\/span> Five years before the closure of this strategy, the country has already implemented 80% of it.<\/span><\/span> He said that in a world that is constantly changing and in a sector that makes new advances every day, the Government is launching an updated strategy.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

This updated strategy works hand in hand with the Malta 2050 Vision which pushes forward social inclusion and economic progress that benefits everyone.<\/span><\/span> The strategy presents updated measures so that the AI \u200b\u200bsector is not only linked to the economic aspect but also serves to continue to strengthen the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan families.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that Malta has a track record, the investment and the will to continue moving forward into a new prosperity that provides a future for our children.<\/span><\/span> He explained that AI should be a tool for everyone and that in a tangible way makes a difference in people\u2019s lives.<\/span><\/span> \u201cTherefore, in the Budget we presented, we put forward a vision of AI for all, to provide the necessary skills for everyone to succeed\u201d, he said, noting the \u20ac100 million AI fund and other measures announced by the Government in the Budget for 2026 in favour of digital transformation.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

At the Cabinet meeting in which many professionals and people from the fields of the digital economy and Artificial Intelligence intervened, Prime Minister Abela stressed that Malta must become the most AI-friendly country in Europe.<\/span><\/span> He said that this is why we want everyone to have the necessary tools to take advantage of new technologies.<\/span><\/span> He explained how AI is not there to take people\u2019s jobs but to improve the operations of our workers and create quality careers with better working conditions.<\/span><\/span> AI also improves the performance and quality of services offered in key areas of life, including health, education and the environment.<\/span><\/span> He pointed out that we want the positive from technology while rejecting the negative.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cOur children must remain children with a free and creative mind. We are a progressive Government that believes in the potential of technology and where everyone has the same opportunities to achieve their aspirations\u201d, said Prime Minister Robert Abela.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Prime Minister explained that our country now has a solid economic base to continue to grow the success of these new economic niches and create more wealth.<\/span><\/span> In fact, the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) shows that the rate of businesses in Malta using AI exceeds the European Union average.<\/span><\/span> In this context, Prime Minister Abela said that technology and AI provide Malta with an opportunity to continue to sustain the economic growth it has registered in recent years, with less intensive land use and without the need for many new workers.<\/span><\/span> He pointed out that international experts, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), agree that Malta is in a good position to benefit from the development of AI and how our country is able to develop AI effectively and exploit the advantages it offers.<\/span><\/span> Dr Abela also mentioned that the IMF noted that almost two-thirds of workers in our country have basic digital skills or a little more.<\/span><\/span> Also mentioned here was the e-Government Benchmark, a report by the European Commission that gave Malta an excellent certificate when it comes to this sector.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Techxpo is taking place between the 20th and 22nd of November 2025 at the MFCC, Ta’ Qali and is being attended by many local enterprises specialising in technology, Artificial Intelligence and the digital sector.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
