\u00a0On Sunday afternoon, Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by the Minister for Education, Sports, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, visited the final works that were carried out so that in the coming days the horse racecourse would reopen for the horse racing championship.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A project that was carried out as promised in the Government’s work programme to continue strengthening the sports infrastructure in our country.<\/span><\/span> Prime Minister Robert Abela noted how this sporting discipline is an important one in our country and pointed out how the Government has fulfilled what it promised, namely the regeneration of the horse racecourse in Marsa.<\/span><\/span> He explained that at the Marsa horse racecourse, international-level facilities have been created for horse racing and their training, among others.<\/span><\/span> He stressed that the economic strength of our country allows us to continue investing in different areas from health to education, from social to families and even environmental ones with the plans for two national parks in White Rocks and Manoel Island but not only.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

An economically strong country like Malta is also continuing to invest in the best sports facilities for different sports disciplines.<\/span><\/span> During the visit, it was explained to the Prime Minister how the sports community of the horse racing discipline has always had a desire for a new quality track that can offer more events, professionalism and peace of mind for athletes.<\/span><\/span> It was also mentioned that the project was intended to continue to prioritize the protection of the health of horses.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

It was stated that the track, which was designed by Maltese Architect Edwin Mintoff, under the guidance of Swedish architect Lars Sandstrom, is now on a level which allows for more speed and spectacle for races while practicing this sport.<\/span><\/span> The one kilometre long track also provides a safer infrastructure for horses.<\/span><\/span> Other works that have been carried out include a new lighting system on the indoor track.<\/span><\/span> This will be offering a better alternative for training that takes place in the dark.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

This is in addition to the new railing that provides the necessary safety and the placement of different layers of stones and sand with varied sizes and types on the surface of the track.<\/span><\/span> It was also explained that regeneration has been carried out around the track with the planting of new trees.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Robert Abela concluded by thanking everyone involved in the project and wished for a wonderful horse racing championship at a top-level racecourse.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
