Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri paid an official courtesy visit to the Holy See in Vatican City State, where he was received by His Excellency Maximino Caballero Ledo, Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy.<\/p>\n
The meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on the longstanding relations between the Republic of Malta and the Holy See, particularly in the context of the 60th anniversary marking the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two States.<\/p>\n
Both sides expressed their appreciation for the cordial and enduring friendship that continues to characterise bilateral ties, founded on a shared history and common values.<\/p>\n
Minister Schembri also had the honour of being received by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV following the conclusion of the General Audience. The Minister conveyed greetings on behalf of the Government and people of Malta, reaffirming the country\u2019s steadfast commitment to maintaining and strengthening its relations with the Holy See.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador of Malta to the Holy See, His Excellency Frank Zammit, facilitated the engagements and accompanied the Minister throughout his visit.<\/p>\n
From a Maltese Start-Up to a Globally Renowned Event<\/strong><\/p>\n While in Rome Minister Silvio Schembri, also attended the SiGMA Central Europe Summit in Rome, where he met Maltese and international industry leaders and celebrated the remarkable success of a Maltese-born idea that has now become a truly global event.<\/p>\n Minister Schembri praised the organisers for their work, noting how their success represents the best of Malta\u2019s potential on the global stage. \u201cFrom a start-up to a globally renowned event, SiGMA is proof of what can be achieved with ambition and determination. It\u2019s a story that mirrors Malta\u2019s own economic journey, one that continues to evolve. The Government will continue to provide the right environment and support for entrepreneurs and companies to grow and succeed internationally,\u201d said Minister Schembri.<\/p>\n During his visit, the Minister toured the summit floor, met with industry exhibitors, and engaged in discussions on the continued growth of Malta\u2019s digital and gaming industries. He also encouraged innovators working in new economic niches such as blockchain, crypto, esports, and AI to explore new collaborations.<\/p>\n GamingMalta CEO, Ivan Filletti, also highlighted the importance of Malta\u2019s strong ecosystem. \u201cSiGMA is more than an event; it\u2019s a celebration of Malta\u2019s gaming community.
