Zerafa Civelli stressed that local councils are being instrumental in improving the standard of living of residents and in making localities more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Financial Grants and Other Schemes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Transport Malta will continue to accept applications until the end of December for the purchase of new electric vehicles, including petrol-powered motorcycles. In addition, in 2026 the following grants will be available to the public:<\/p>\n<p>Grants on New Electric Vehicles and Motorcycles<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u20ac500 for pedelecs (electric motor-assisted bicycles)<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac2,000 to \u20ac6,000 for electric motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac8,000 for cars and vans worth less than \u20ac40,000<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac6,000 for cars and vans worth between \u20ac40,000 and \u20ac100,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scrapping scheme<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u20ac500 on scrapping a motorbike<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac1,000 on scrapping a car<\/li>\n<li>Additional \u20ac1,000 for scrapping vehicles registered in Gozo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other Schemes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scheme for the purchase of pedelecs, petrol motorcycles and e-kick scooters<\/li>\n<li>Full VAT refund on bicycles and electric bikes<\/li>\n<li>Scheme for wheelchair accessible vehicles used for the carriage of passengers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reduction in Registration Taxes and Annual License Fees<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From 1 January 2026, motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of up to 350cc will be exempt from registration tax and their annual license will be reduced to \u20ac25 per year.<\/li>\n<li>Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles with an electric range of more than 50km will remain exempt from registration tax and road licence fees for 5 years from the date of registration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Vehicle Licence Arrears Regularisation Scheme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Transport Malta will offer this scheme which applies to vehicle owners who have scrapped, garaged, exported, or transferred vehicles without officially notifying Transport Malta.
