The ParksInMalta webapp is a digital tool through which the public will have immediate access to view where open and recreational spaces are located across Malta and Gozo. With a list exceeding two hundred open spaces, gardens, and playgrounds, ParksInMalta allows people to find where these recreational areas are, while also viewing what type of events are taking place.<\/p>\n

During a press conference together with Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli launched the digital initiative aimed at bringing citizens closer to recreational spaces.<\/p>\n

Developed by Project Green, ParksInMalta highlights the various features of these spaces, including wheelchair-accessible pathways, inclusive play areas or outdoor gyms, public conveniences, and zones suitable for picnics, among other options.<\/p>\n

The Ministers explained how access to a healthy environment is an important factor in improving mental health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the initiatives closest to my heart. In just a few seconds, you can see where more than 200 recreational spaces \u2014 gardens, parks, and playgrounds \u2014 are located; spaces where people can spend their leisure time,\u201d said Minister Dalli.<\/p>\n

Minister Dalli also explained that Budget 2026 is allocating the largest-ever capital vote to the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness \u2014 an allocation of \u20ac275 million. \u201cThis represents a 26% increase within two years. Governments around us are forced to cut investments, including those in the environmental sector. In contrast, our country has a stronger economy that allows the Maltese Government to keep on investing,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Minister Jo Etienne Abela, said that open spaces are necessary and crucial for mental well-being. He emphasised that the Government\u2019s goal is to continue promoting awareness about prevention, to strengthen consciousness and resilience. \u201cToday we are here in a green and open environment. Our aim is to keep on investing in in care within our communities, where people can find the help they need just a few steps away from their home,\u201d said Minister Abela.<\/p>\n

Minister Abela explained that, as announced in the 2026 Budget, the Government will continue investing in care and prevention through three centres in Malta that will offer community-based mental health services. \u201cA strong economy is essential to enable further investment in the health of each and every one of us. As a Government, we are committed to continuing to work to provide the best care for our families and our children,\u201d concluded Dr Abela.<\/p>\n
