Finance Minister Clyde Caruana winds up his Budget 2026 with a passionate closing statement:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h6>\n

\u201cFor me, this is the most important measure I have implemented as Finance Minister. I am proud of it because it embodies a principle I believe deeply in, that with reasoned policy, studied and responsible measures, you can influence society\u2019s future for the better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of this we are doing for a Malta that continues to aspire. For a Malta that continues to win. For a Malta that looks forward. For a united Malta. For a Malta that chooses hope over darkness. For Malta that chooses progress. For Malta that never loses heart. For Malta first, and above all. For Malta to be the author of its own history. Because only with a strong economy can we offer the best future to our children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Local Councils and services.<\/strong> Government will continue support for local councils to strengthen community service. Caravan site near Mellieha to be upgraded.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Culture and Arts: <\/strong>A Sound Stage for Malta planned.<\/h6>\n
Justice: <\/strong>Family Court reforms continue, first phase due for completion. Consultations for a new reform focused on protecting children from social media risks.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Police and Armed Forces<\/strong>. \u20ac6 million IT upgrade for police. Renovations of stations in Ra\u0127al \u0120did, Mosta, Sliema, Qormi, and Rabat (Gozo). Civil Protection Department will get two fire trucks as well as advanced rescue and aerial search equipment.<\/span><\/h6>\n

Armed Forces to get equipment upgrades, Air Wing to get new helicopters and planes by 2028<\/p>\n

Upgrades for services at Gozo General Hospital. New museums for Rabat and Qala. Restoration projects in various localities.<\/h6>\n
Gozo<\/strong>:\u00a0 Major overhaul of Gozo roads include new pedestrian links in Rabat connecting Park and Ride facilities to local centers: arterial roadworks planned in Nadur, Qala, and Rabat.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a Promenade <\/span>to start shortly<\/h6>\n
\u010airkewwa and M\u0121arr terminals are set for upgrades<\/span><\/h6>\n
\u20ac5,000 yearly grant to give up your licence<\/span>, scheme for young drivers.<\/h6>\n
Three new fast ferry routes.<\/h6>\n
New road projects for safer streets.<\/h6>\n
Gozo bus fleet to be all electric by end 2026<\/h6>\n
Transport:<\/strong> Grants for electric vehicles extended.<\/h6>\n
Investments in modern Pitkalija facilities in Malta and Gozo <\/span><\/h6>\n
Emergency veterinary services will be available during off-hours, from 8pm to 8am, on Sundays and public holidays.<\/span><\/h6>\n

Crematorium for animals<\/p>\n

A new Organic Waste Processing Plant will handle 75,300 tonnes annually for biogas and compost.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Energy: <\/strong>Work on second interconnector at advanced stage, testing of new cable expected early next year.<\/h6>\n

More investment in electrical provision<\/p>\n

New Water scheme for agricultural use to be extended in southern Malta.<\/p>\n

Health<\/strong>: More aid for Cancer cure, more medicines for cancer free of charge<\/h6>\n

Health Centres in Qormi and Gzira will provide 24 hours a day service.<\/p>\n

In 2026, three new Regional Mental Health Centres are scheduled to open. First in Bormla, then in Malta\u2019s Central and Northern regions. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sport<\/strong>: A National Tennis Centre, support for Special Olympics Malta<\/span><\/h6>\n
Stipends to increase by 15%: six months gym membership free for youths between 16 and 21.<\/h6>\n
Education: <\/strong>500 euros for a family with children in form 4 or 5\u00a0 for digital equipment<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
Tourism. <\/strong>The government will work to attract quality tourists.<\/h6>\n

Eco-contribution will rise from \u20ac0.50 to \u20ac1.50 per tourist per night to fund infrastructure and environmental improvements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Restoration of Selmun Palace and Fort Campbell.<\/h6>\n

Investment of 100 million euros in Digitization<\/h6>\n

Bereavement and miscarriage leave for self-employed.<\/h6>\n
Inclusive hub for Rabat, Respite centre for Dingli.<\/h6>\n
More investment in San Vincent De Paule<\/h6>\n
Increase in subsidy for home help of your choice<\/h6>\n
Stamp Duty. Refund of stamp duty up to a maximum of 5 years<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
Tax exemption for pensioners on maximum pension<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
In work benefit will increase by 200 euros<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
Increases in assistance to people with disabilities and carers<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
Increase of 10 euros per week to 100,000 pensioners<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n

Improvement in the annual supplement for seniors 65+<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

120 million euros in social measures<\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/h6>\n
Minister Caruana says this is a government that will support families with children<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n
Big tax cuts for parents<\/strong><\/h6>\n

Parents with two children or more, the tax-free threshold will rise from the current \u20ac13,000 to \u20ac30,000 by 2028.<\/p>\n

An average of 2,400 more per year in the pockets of parents<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

160 million for 68,000 parents in tax deductions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

290,000 workers benefited from tax breaks<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

COLA to increase by 4.66 euros per week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
