This year’s edition of the Maltese Food Festival, organised by the Malta Food Agency, was successfully held on Sunday 12th October at Pitkalija, Ta’ Qali. The festival, which took place a few days before World Food Day, which is celebrated around the world on 16th October, was dedicated to embracing sustainability, local produce and Maltese identity through food.<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, families enjoyed a unique experience that brought together local gastronomy, music, heritage and creativity. There were sales and displays of agricultural products, educational and interactive activities for children, as well as demonstrations that reiterated the importance of fresh food and sustainability in the food chain.<\/p>\n

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo expressed his appreciation towards the Malta Food Agency and also for the large participation of the public, and stated that this event demonstrated the unity between the community and all those who work to ensure that Maltese produce reaches our tables.<\/p>\n

“This feast continues to remind us how much food is a key element of our identity as Maltese and Gozitans. Through these initiatives we are recalling our traditions and at the same time promoting the values \u200b\u200bof sustainability and appreciation towards our farmers, ranchers and fishermen who with great dedication provide fresh and quality food,” said Minister Refalo.<\/p>\n

Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said explained how “Festa Ikel Malti commemorates our country’s culinary heritage where we continue to promote local and quality products thanks to Maltese and Gozitan villagers, farmers, fishermen and producers who work with passion and dedication to provide fresh produce.” She thanked the Malta Food Agency for successfully organising this event.<\/p>\n

The Chief Executive of the Malta Food Agency, Brian Vella, expressed his gratitude to the thousands who attended the Maltese Food Festival and to the more than 40 producers who showcased the quality and versatility of Maltese products. He reiterated that \u201cThis festival was not only a celebration of our products, but also of those who make them possible; the farmers, fishermen, herders and producers whose work and dedication give strength to the Maltese food sector. This was an occasion to pay tribute to the men and women who raise, harvest and create authentic products that represent the best of Malta.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights together with the Malta Food Agency thanked the public for their numerous attendance and stressed that this feast continues to confirm how food and culture are key pillars of the Maltese community<\/p>\n
