During a consultation meeting on Budget 2026, with representatives of the Union of Nurses and Midwives (MUMN), Prime Minister Robert Abela noted how through open dialogue and a Government that listens, nurses and midwives are benefiting from a collective agreement that is giving them the best working conditions.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the Government will continue to invest in human resources, so that this vital sector continues to be strengthened and offers quality service to patients.<\/p>\n

Dr Abela emphasised that the health sector is and will remain one of the most essential pillars of this Government’s policy, not only in relation to physical health, but also mental health. On mental health, the Prime Minister pointed out that the Government is committed to continuing to strengthen facilities and services, including specialised ones, along with further investment to continue improving the skills of those working in this field.<\/p>\n

He recalled that in recent years, the Government has continued to invest substantially in the health system, both in infrastructure and technology, as well as in investment in health workers. He mentioned the improvement in primary care, where he also referred to the \u010aensu Moran Primary Health Care Centre, which has now started operating and offers extensive services to patients, including podiatry, physiotherapy and a respiratory medicine clinic.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister added that primary care is essential to reduce the pressure on Mater Dei Hospital and to make medical care more accessible in the heart of communities. He also mentioned the new telephone service for non-emergency health cases, which is showing positive results. \u201cThese are just a few of the initiatives that the Government has worked on over the past few months,\u201d said Dr Abela.<\/p>\n

Present for this consultative meeting were Minister Jo Etienne Abela, Parliamentary Secretaries Andy Ellul, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea and Rebecca Buttigieg, Deputies Chris Fearne, Michael Farrugia and Romilda Zarb and the Head of the Secretariat of the Office of the Prime Minister, Colonel Mark Mallia.<\/p>\n
