The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, announced a regeneration project in the locality of Marsaxlokk, with a total investment of more than \u20ac8 million which includes the redevelopment of the Marsaxlokk Aquatic Sports Club, the extension of the sandy beach at G\u0127ar l-A\u0127mar and the reconstruction of the road in this area.<\/p>\n

At the heart of this project is the complete reconstruction of the Marsaxlokk Aquatic Sports Club with the demolition of the existing building, and the construction of a new sports and community complex in its place. This will include a swimming pool for training and water polo games as well as a smaller swimming pool for general and recreational use, complemented by sports facilities such as a gym, fitness centre and rooms for athletes.<\/p>\n

The project also includes the extension and regeneration of the sandy beach in the well-known area of \u200b\u200bG\u0127ar l-A\u0127mar. The beach will be extended by approximately 15 metres towards the south, in order to offer a larger and safer space for swimming and for families visiting it. This process involves the use of natural sand taken from the inner bay of Marsaxlokk. To protect this work from the natural elements, a new berm with natural stones will be built to accommodate waves and currents.<\/p>\n

Minister Bonett explained how this investment confirms the Government’s vision of seeing infrastructure go beyond roads. \u201cInfrastructure does not just mean new roads but also spaces that serve society and our communities,\u201d stressed Minister Bonett. \u201cThis project in Marsaxlokk, as we are seeing in other localities such as Msida, Marsaskala and Bu\u0121ibba, confirms our commitment to regenerating areas in the heart of localities to create better spaces where people can meet and spend their time in a more beautiful and safer environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul said that, \u201cProjects like this require vision, planning, and above all, collaboration.\u201d He thanked the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works as well as the Infrastructure Malta team, the Marsaxlokk Local Council, the sports community, and the residents who all played a role in shaping this project.<\/p>\n
