Prime Minister Robert Abela is in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/span><\/span> More than 190 Leaders including Heads of State or Government will be participating and joining discussions on different themes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

In New York, on behalf of Malta and together with other countries, Prime Minister Robert Abela will be formally recognising the State of Palestine.<\/span><\/span> This is as part of a political commitment given by Prime Minister Robert Abela and Malta\u2019s consistent position in favour of the two-State solution.<\/span><\/span> A position that also speaks of dialogue and the need for peace in the Middle East while Malta continues to condemn the attacks of 7 October 2023 by the terrorist group Hamas, which has no role in the State of Palestine.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Malta continues to call for the unconditional release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas while calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.<\/span><\/span> Meanwhile, Prime Minister Robert Abela has several other meetings on different and bilateral topics before addressing the United Nations General Assembly.<\/span><\/span> The theme of the 80th session in the words of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, is \u2018Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Rights and Human Development\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
