Just a few months after the announcement last June of a project to transform the Sant\u2019Antnin plant in Marsaskala into a new public green space, members of the media today had the opportunity to visit the site and see the progress being made on the first phase of the project.<\/p>\n

During this visit, Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli, together with WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca, gave details about the extensive work currently underway as part of a \u20ac4 million investment in this initial phase.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are fulfilling our promise to return this space to the public. This project will not only transform a waste facility but will also create a better and more ecological environment for families, children, and the community to enjoy,\u201d said Minister Miriam Dalli during the visit.<\/p>\n

WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca noted the progress taking place on site. \u201cWe remain focused on our vision to turn this site into one of Malta\u2019s most attractive, educational, and sustainable green spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, excavation is underway for a three-storey underground car park, which will also include park-and-ride facilities. Works are also in progress on the excavation of an artificial lake measuring 4,200m\u00b2, which will be a main attraction of the new park. Construction has also begun on three reservoirs intended to collect and store rainwater, as well as on the perimeter wall that will surround the park.<\/p>\n

This phase forms part of a total investment of \u20ac37 million, with works progressing steadily and at a good pace. Once this phase is completed, the second phase will begin, focusing on landscaping works, the planting of mature trees, and the continuation of works on the artificial lake, including the installation of a water filtration system.<\/p>\n

This project represents a significant step in giving a new purpose to this area, turning it into a green and accessible space that enhances the quality of life for nearby residents while supporting sustainable urban development.<\/p>\n

Also present for the visit were WasteServ\u2019s project team and representatives from the Marsaskala local council.<\/p>\n
