New distribution centre to strengthen service for over 12,000 families<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Minister for Energy, Dr Miriam Dalli, together with Enemalta Executive Chairman Ing. Ryan Fava, visited the ongoing works on a new distribution centre in Naxxar.<\/p>\n

Here, Enemalta is continuing to expand and modernise the electricity network in order to improve the service and increase its capacity to meet the ever-growing demand in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.<\/p>\n

This new centre is one of several infrastructural investments being carried out as part of a wider plan to build and upgrade distribution centres around Malta. The Naxxar centre will serve up to 12,000 consumers, with a capacity similar to that of the one currently being built in Si\u0121\u0121iewi.<\/p>\n

Minister Miriam Dalli recognised this project as vital to ensuring a stable and sustainable electricity supply, and praised Enemalta\u2019s efforts to continue strengthening the existing network while also addressing new challenges. \u201cWhen we talk about infrastructural works to finally have an electricity system that is resilient, we are not only referring to cable laying. Cable laying is part of the work, but there are also ongoing upgrades in existing distribution centres as well as the building of new ones. This project will strengthen the electricity distribution system and ultimately the supply of electricity that reaches people in Naxxar and neighbouring localities,\u201d Dalli said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis centre is a clear example of how Enemalta is working with a vision for a future system that is more efficient, flexible, and ready to meet the needs of future generations. This investment, made possible through European funds, will amount to around \u20ac15 million and will further strengthen distribution in the areas of Naxxar, G\u0127arg\u0127ur, and surrounding localities,\u201d Fava explained.<\/p>\n

The project is financed by the European Union\u2019s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).<\/p>\n

Apart from Naxxar and Si\u0121\u0121iewi, Enemalta is currently undertaking several other projects across the country. On a national level, Enemalta is expanding and modernising the medium-voltage system by increasing distribution sources, which will enhance the system\u2019s flexibility and supply resilience.<\/p>\n

One of the most crucial projects currently underway is the expansion of the Msida Distribution Centre, where extensive works are being carried out to double its existing capacity.<\/p>\n

Additionally, expansion works are also ongoing at the St Andrew\u2019s Distribution Centre, where capacity will be increased to strengthen connections in the surrounding regions.<\/p>\n

These projects form part of a long-term vision for Malta to have an electricity infrastructure that is robust, flexible, and ready to address new challenges related to climate change, transport electrification, and economic development. Enemalta will continue to invest in more substations and new technologies that offer better control and monitoring of the system. Through this continuous investment, Enemalta is laying the foundations for a future with cleaner, safer, and more sustainable energy for all.<\/p>\n
