The works on the Marina Garden in Piet\u00e0, which are being regenerated through a collaboration between the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) and Ambjent Malta, are in their final phase.<\/p>\n
During a visit to the site, Minister for the Environment and Energy, Miriam Dalli, emphasised the importance of regenerating this garden so that it becomes accessible to families and the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this regeneration, we are restoring a historic garden and creating a safe, modern, and accessible space for everyone \u2013 from families and the elderly to those who cycle or go jogging. Apart from ongoing work on new spaces, we are making sure to continue with regeneration works so that existing spaces are used as they should be\u201d, said Minister Dalli.<\/p>\n
Present for this visit were the GHRC Chief Executive Officer, Gino Cauchi, together with the Corporation\u2019s technical team; from Ambjent Malta, the Director General Herman Galea and the Director for Environmental Projects Josianne Muscat; as well as the Mayor of Piet\u00e0, Stefano Savo.<\/p>\n
The regeneration works on this garden, which covers 4,400 square metres, include the creation of a greenway of around 210 metres for the use of cyclists and joggers. This pathway ensures unobstructed access and reduces risk for those using the garden for recreational purposes.<\/p>\n
Around 980 square metres of pathways have been replaced, while improvements have been made to the recreational facilities, the fountain, and the garden\u2019s lighting system. Restoration and maintenance works are also being carried out on the existing monuments. Ambjent Malta is working on beautification works, which will see the planting of various trees, shrubs, and seasonal plants. To complement these beautification works, Ambjent Malta will be installing an irrigation system that will allow watering of the planted greenery both in the hot summer months and in winter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe regeneration project for this garden was both necessary and ambitious. I am satisfied that the original characteristics of the garden have been preserved and that recreational spaces suitable for all ages have been added. Areas have been created where children can play and enjoy themselves, spaces for physical activities for everyone, as well as places where one can rest and relax in a pleasant environment\u201d, said Pieta Mayor Stefano Savo.<\/p>\n
This initiative forms part of a chain of other projects to ensure that the Grand Harbour area is equipped with a continuous, modern, and safe promenade.<\/p>\n
