Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela announced that an Organ Support Policy has come into force at Mater Dei Hospital.<\/span><\/span> The main aim of this policy is to ensure that patients with critical conditions are given the highest level of care in the shortest possible time, and that there is an escalation of care in order to protect the organs.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained that through this policy, every person admitted to Mater Dei Hospital will be given a plan for specialized and personalized treatment to avoid any deterioration in the patient\u2019s condition.<\/span><\/span> This plan can be changed during the person\u2019s hospital stay according to the patient\u2019s needs.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Minister Abela went on to explain how through this new policy the nurse will have the facility to escalate care immediately and with the assistance of a specialized team \u2014 \u2018Rapid Response Team\u2019.<\/span><\/span> He went on to explain that decisions regarding escalation of care to protect the patient\u2019s organs should be taken within 24 hours of the patient\u2019s admission to the hospital with the involvement of the patient himself and relatives where possible.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI thank all the professionals at Mater Dei Hospital for the new systems that are being implemented so that the patient is given better care and we prevent his condition from deteriorating. We are committed to continuing to offer the best care from which Maltese and Gozitan patients benefit,\u201d concluded Minister Abela.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
