Eurowings has officially inaugurated its latest direct flight route between Stuttgart and Malta, following the first bi-weekly service that took off on the 8th of June 2025. This new connection complements the airline\u2019s existing routes from Hamburg and D\u00fcsseldorf, which were successfully launched in 2024.<\/p>\n

The new Stuttgart\u2013Malta route significantly enhances connectivity between the Maltese Islands and Germany\u2019s Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg region, offering easier access for travellers from key nearby cities such as Heidelberg and Karlsruhe. Travellers from the Frankfurt area also benefit, thanks to Germany\u2019s efficient rail infrastructure. Starting in 2026, a direct high-speed ICE train connection to Stuttgart Airport will further reduce travel times, making Malta even more accessible to the German market.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the route launch, a high-impact promotional event was held at Stuttgart Airport in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority\u2019s (MTA) Germany Office and Stuttgart Airport. In February 2025, in preparation for route launch, VisitMalta and Stuttgart Airport, launched a campaign targeting both consumers and trade, which has since continued with a strategic mix of digital and offline activities.<\/p>\n

Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted at the gate with special giveaways and informative material about Malta. Among the passengers on the inaugural flight were Mareike Ehmann and Lara Celine Althaus from the popular travel platform Urlaubstracker, who joined a three-day press trip to discover the Maltese Islands and report on the route launch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new connection further strengthens our presence in the German market, increasing the number of German airports with direct flights to Malta to eight,\u201d said Martin Frendo, MTA Director for Germany. \u201cIt provides both travellers and the travel trade with more choice and flexibility, particularly for tour operators offering holiday packages across Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism also welcomed the new route, stating: \u201cEnhanced air connectivity plays a vital role not only in supporting our tourism sector, but also in advancing Malta\u2019s economic and diplomatic interests. This new route underscores our commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Germany, one of Malta\u2019s key strategic partners, while fostering greater opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenting on the broader significance of the launch, Carlo Micallef, CEO of the MTA, added: \u201cThe Stuttgart\u2013Malta route supports our strategic efforts to grow higher yield tourism from Germany, a market with strong potential across multiple segments, from leisure, to business, and MICE. With every new connection, Malta becomes more accessible, diverse, and attractive to the modern German traveller.\u201d<\/p>\n
