The Malta Vision 2050 speaks about an ambitious target to see the added value in the manufacturing sector rise by another \u20ac1 billion over the next decade. This was stated by Prime Minister Robert Abela during the inauguration of the expansion of the Trelleborg factory in \u0126al Far.<\/p>\n
An investment of \u20ac34 million which includes expenditure on infrastructure and equipment which will be brought in to operate the extended facility where Trelleborg will combine its industry in the semi-conductors sector with that of bio-pharma. The extended facility will increase the size of the factory by more than 6,000 square metres and create another hundred quality careers as the number of jobs employed by the Swedish company in Malta will go up to 600. Among the sectors that these new careers will give an opportunity to more Maltese is that of bio-engineering.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Robert Abela noted the success story of more than 60 years of Trelleborg in our country and described this investment with the help of Malta Enterprise and INDIS Malta as a show of confidence in our country, in Maltese workers and in our country\u2019s vision for sustainable and technological development fuelled by research. He said that the expansion of the factory is opening new horizons in emerging sectors and Malta is ready to wake up for this occasion. He explained how Trelleborg and other companies that invest tirelessly in our country are crucial to further strengthen our country\u2019s economic and industrial identity.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister stressed that this investment goes hand in hand with the priorities of the Malta Vision 2050. \u201cMalta remains an open country for value-added investment not just a place to welcome business\u201d, Dr Abela said. He also thanked the workers and technicians who made this project a reality and who will continue to strengthen innovation in our country.<\/p>\n
Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri described this expansion by Trelleborg as a clear example of what we can achieve through strong collaboration between the private sector and public entities. He mentioned Malta Enterprise and INDIS Malta as entities that had a crucial role for this private investment to materialise by facilitating land allocation and pushing towards a core of value-added operations. \u201cThis type of pro-active collaboration is precisely what the Malta Vision 2050 speaks about,\u201d Minister Schembri said.<\/p>\n
The President and CEO of the Trelleborg Group Peter Nilsson said that the investment in expansion at the Trelleborg facility means the constant presence of the company in Malta and the willingness to further strengthen its capabilities in the Life Sciences and semi-conductors industry. Neal Borg, General Manager of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions based in Malta said, \u201cThis is an exciting time for Trelleborg in Malta, as we expand our operations in medical devices and semiconductor applications.
