Training for workers in preparation for advanced technology<\/i><\/b><\/div>\n

The Technology, Electronics and Communications Section of the General Workers\u2019 Union (GWU) has signed a new Collective Agreement for all employees of STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd. This four-year agreement is designed to enhance working conditions and training opportunities, especially as the company embarks on a new project incorporating digital and robotic technologies to promote automation in Industry 4.0.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The General Secretary of the GWU stated, \u201cThis Agreement marks a significant step in providing workers with a new direction, emphasizing training and establishing this company as one of the best in Malta. We have introduced clauses that focus on training, equipping workers with new competencies and skills to fill vacancies that may arise in the company\u2019s upcoming plant.\u201d<\/div>\n

David Darmanin, Secretary of the Technology, Electronics and Communication Section of the GWU, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed with loyalty to both the company and the union to reach this agreement, which aims to improve workers’ conditions. He especially thanked the entire committee for their dedication and support, and most importantly, the worker members who showed overwhelming support by voting in favor of the agreement.<\/div>\n

\u201cIt brings me great satisfaction reaching the signing of this Agreement, which is the third and best Collective Agreement I have signed with this company. This Agreement not only improves working conditions but also increases wages and allowances. I take immense satisfaction in this achievement,\u201d stated Darmanin.<\/div>\n

Laurent Filipozzi, General Manager of STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd., remarked that this Agreement is crucial for both the workers and the company\u2019s future. Alongside improvements in conditions and salaries, it includes specialized training aimed at further investing in employees\u2014a strategy he believes is vital for the company\u2019s continued growth.<\/div>\n

Muhittin Ugurludemir, Human Resources Director, noted, \u201cThis is a significant moment for STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd., not only from an industrial perspective but also for the future of the country. As one of Malta\u2019s largest companies, we maintain a strong relationship with the GWU, which we intend to strengthen further. This four-year Agreement particularly focuses on the development of our workers, ensuring their continued growth.\u201d<\/div>\n

Two worker representatives, Charles Seracino and Jason Gatt, conveyed that after extensive discussions and negotiations over the past months, workers are delighted with the signing of this Agreement and hopeful for a brighter future. They emphasized the importance of the discussions surrounding training, especially as they prepare for significant changes with the new project, which integrates advanced automation, precision engineering, and specialized labor to produce high-quality semiconductors.<\/div>\n

The agreement was signed by Josef Bugeja, Secretary General, and David Darmanin, Section Secretary of the GWU; Laurent Filipozzi, General Manager; Muhittin Ugurludemir, Human Resources Director; Simon Bugeja, Equipment Engineering & Maintenance Manager at STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd.; and GWU shop stewards Charles Seracino, Joseph Briffa, Jason Gatt, David Bugeja, Malcolm Said, and Christian Glanville.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
