Ryan Fava, Water Services Corporation CEO Karl Cilia, and representatives from the local council, visited various ongoing works in the locality of Marsaxlokk.

“We are continuing to modernise and strengthen electricity and water services, locality by locality, especially in those areas that attract more tourists and experience significant economic activity. This way, we are addressing the needs of today and tomorrow while offering people a better and more reliable service,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.

Enemalta is currently laying 3.5km of medium-voltage cables in this locality to further strengthen the electricity supply for residents and businesses in the area. This work will also create new links between substations in Marsaxlokk and Żejtun. Part of the project involves removing overhead lines in the Marnisi area and replacing them with underground cables to reduce the risk of damage from natural elements.

Work has also been carried out on new low-voltage feeders to improve distribution at a lower voltage level. Meanwhile, the company will be commissioning two additional new substations to further reinforce the local system. These will join the two substations already commissioned during 2024. Enemalta’s investment in Marsaxlokk this year alone amounts to €1.7 million.

Eng. Ryan Fava stated that through this work, the distribution system in Marsaxlokk and Żejtun is being strengthened via new links between existing and new substations. Thanks to the collaboration between Enemalta, Infrastructure Malta, and Transport Malta, the investment in Marsaxlokk will result in a more robust supply. “I would like to thank the workers from Enemalta, Infrastructure Malta, and Transport Malta who, together with the local councils, worked to complete these works in the shortest time possible before the summer months begin,” said Eng. Fava.

The Water Services Corporation, in collaboration with Infrastructure Malta, is carrying out several interventions in various parts of Marsaxlokk including Triq Tumbrell, Triq Arznell, and Triq il-Power Station. These works include replacing existing water mains as well as extending many mains, and work on the New Water systems so they can be used by farmers on their agricultural land. Improvements have also been made to the drainage services, including the replacement of deteriorated manholes and mains that supply nearby residences. The Corporation has also completed work in the St. Peter’s Pool area. The total investment from the Water Services Corporation is approximately €700,000.

Water Services Corporation CEO Karl Cilia stated, “The works carried out on various streets in Marsaxlokk – which involve improvements to the potable water and drainage networks, as well as extensions to the main that supplies New Water to our farmers – are a testament to our commitment to continue providing a reliable and improved service.”

Photo: MEEC

<g transform="translate(0,332) scale(0.1,-0.1)" fill="" stroke="none"></g>

Work underway to provide Marsaxlokk residents with better electricity and water services Total investment of €2.4 million from two entities Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli, together with Enemalta’s Executive Chairperson Eng.
