Minister for Justice and the Reform of the Construction Sector, Jonathan Attard, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer for Occupational Health and Safety, Josianne Cutajar, visited the local company Foster Clark\u2019s to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur commitment to raising standards is reflected in the significant reforms we are implementing, including the recent introduction of the new OHSA legislation. The purpose of these visits is to acknowledge the work carried out by employees across various workplaces and to ensure that workers\u2019 health and safety are being safeguarded\u201d, stated Minister Attard.<\/p>\n
Minister Attard highlighted the company\u2019s ongoing investment not only in its operations but also in its employees. Despite production demands, Foster Clark\u2019s consistently allocates time to ensure workers receive regular updates and training on Occupational Health and Safety practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased that, during this period as we prepare to celebrate Workers\u2019 Day, we are meeting employees in exemplary companies like Foster Clark\u2019s, where health and safety are truly valued\u201d, added Minister Attard.<\/p>\n
Dr Josianne Cutajar, Chief Executive Officer for Occupational Health and Safety, emphasised that Foster Clark\u2019s serves as a clear example of how the ongoing reforms are fostering a culture of mutual respect between employers and employees, all in the best interest of workplace wellbeing.<\/p>\n
During the visit, it was noted that various risks are associated with different types of work\u2014some of which may not always be immediately apparent but still pose a significant threat to workers\u2019 health. These include risks from chemicals, microbes, and materials that may cause respiratory illnesses and dermatological conditions if not properly controlled. Additional risks arising from noise and machinery vibrations were also highlighted. The company was commended for the robust measures it has implemented to protect the health of its workforce, with strong collaboration from employees in adhering to established health and safety protocols.<\/p>\n
Paul Demanuele, Director of Operations at Foster Clark\u2019s, acknowledged the government\u2019s commitment to reforming the sector. He further explained that the company regularly organizes awareness and training sessions for approximately 400 employees across its various departments, reinforcing a strong culture of health and safety.<\/p>\n
