Three people have tested positive with the new strain of Covid-19. Professor Charmaine Gauci, Superintendent of Public Health, said that two of those were from the UK and had arrived in Malta on 19th December. A third person, who is Maltese, was also found to have contracted the new strain.
Bars and clubs will remain closed until 1st February as health authorities continue to combat the Covid-19 virus. They had been due to  reopen on 1st January. Professor Charmaine Gauci, Superintendent of Public Health, appealed to everyone to follow government guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

There were 124 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours although the overall number of active cases continued to fall.  With 138 recoveries that current number now stands at 1,3 92.
