Dr Andria Buhagiar has been appointed as a judge at the General Court of the European Union after Malta’s nomination was formally accepted.
Dr Buhagiar was nominated by the Maltese Government to replace Judge Ramona Frendo, who is now serving as a judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The Government welcomed the appointment and wished Dr Buhagiar every success in carrying out her new and important role.
Minister for Justice, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima thanked Dr Buhagiar for her dedicated service over recent years in her role as Deputy State Advocate.
Following the appointment, Malta will have two judges serving at the General Court of the European Union.
The Government said the appointment reflects the calibre of Maltese legal professionals and further strengthens Malta’s contribution to the administration of justice at European level.
