Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has announced the permanent introduction of the accommodation scheme for Gozitans stranded in Malta due to the suspension of the ferry service in the event of extreme weather. This measure, which was promised in the electoral manifesto, was introduced in the first 100 days of the new legislature, and continues to reflect the Government’s commitment to addressing the particular challenges faced by Gozitan residents.
Minister Clint Camilleri stated that this scheme is being made permanent, to reduce the financial burden on Gozitan families in circumstances beyond their control. “When the Gozo Channel service is suspended due to extreme weather conditions, Gozitan residents may end up stranded in Malta and have to find accommodation out of pocket. As a Government and Ministry we have already been assisting in such circumstances. Today we are taking another step by introducing this assistance permanently, so that affected Gozitans do not have to bear the financial burden alone resulting from a situation they could not control.”
Gozitan residents will be able to apply for a refund of eligible accommodation costs online via the MyGozo App, at mygozo.gov.mt/?form=emergency_accomodation_scheme , with their eID on servizz.gov , or from the servizz.gov Hub in St Francis Square, Rabat.
Applicants must retain official accommodation receipts and the necessary documents, complete the application and submit all documentation within the stipulated time. The scheme covers accommodation in hotels, hostels and other licensed establishments, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the scheme.
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that this measure confirms the Government’s commitment to being close to Gozitans in exceptional situations because the priority remains to ensure that no Gozitan resident bears a financial burden due to circumstances beyond their control. This scheme reflects the Government’s commitment to being there for Gozitans.
