Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Ian Borg continued with a number of visits to health institutions across the country as part of his first commitments in this position.
Dr Borg visited these institutions to meet directly with workers, health professionals and patients, while closely monitoring the services offered, investments and pressures facing the health sector in order to identify concrete solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
“One of my first commitments was to meet with the leadership and workers of various institutions and entities in the health sector across the country. I did this at Mater Dei Hospital, Karen Grech Hospital, the Rabat Health Centre, Malta and now also at the Gozo General Hospital. Each visit was an opportunity to appreciate the continuous investment being made in the service offered, while continuing to identify areas where we need to continue to invest, regenerate and improve,” said Dr Borg.
During these visits, the Deputy Prime Minister had the opportunity to see firsthand the work carried out daily by thousands of healthcare professionals and workers who are at the forefront of patient care. He stated that in each institution he visited, the dedication, professionalism and commitment of the workers towards patients and towards the continuous improvement of services was evident.
“Before we make important decisions about the future of healthcare, we need to listen to those who are providing the service every day as well as to the patients themselves. It was gratifying for me to see the commitment, dedication and ambition that exists in our sector. This gives me more confidence that together we can continue to improve the sector and keep the Maltese and Gozitan patient at the centre of every decision we make,” added Dr Borg.
During his last visit to the Gozo General Hospital, Dr Borg emphasised the importance of continuing to expand health services on the island of Gozo so that the community can continue to enjoy modern, quality care close to home.
In the coming weeks, the Deputy Prime Minister will continue with this program of visits to other health institutions and services across the country, while continuing to drive forward investments, initiatives and projects that will continue to strengthen the Maltese health system.
