St Dorothy’s Senior School has recently become one of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools thanks to its participation in the European Parliament’s programme bearing the same name (EPAS).
Recently, a group of students representing the school had the opportunity to visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg to participate in the Euroscola programme. In acknowledgment of their achievement they were awarded certificates presented to them by none other than the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, who visited the school on Monday.
“Thanks to your commitment and that of so many other students and their teachers across Europe, this programme continues to grow increasingly successful, encouraging active citizenship among young Europeans. Today more than ever, citizen engagement is crucial for Europe to stand up to the challenges it faces with confidence and hope. You are therefore the next generation of champions of European values”, said President Metsola.
Following their participation in the EPAS programme, St Dorothy’s students had also won the final EPAS Quiz, held on Europe Day last year (9th May) at the European Parliament Liason Office in Valletta. This earned the opportunity for 24 students and 2 educators from the school to participate in the prestigious Euroscola programme at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 7 February 2025.
The Euroscola experience enables secondary school students to step into the shoes of Members of the European Parliament for a day: engaging in debate, discussing key issues facing the EU, and collaborating with peers from across all Member States in the heart of European democracy
The EPAS programme aims to deepen students’ understanding of European parliamentary democracy, promote active citizenship, and foster greater awareness of the European Union’s values. With around 2000 certified European Parliament Ambassador Schools, 5000 teachers appointed as senior ambassadors and almost 35000 students as junior ambassadors around Europe, the network offers schools a great opportunity to exchange best practices and cooperate in the implementation of the programme
In Malta, the programme is led by the European Parliament Liaison Office, with 14 schools participating in the current scholastic year.
