Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti officially inaugurated the Cancer Research and Innovation Hub Malta (CRIHM) Foundation Mobile Unit. This initiative, which will tour Malta and Gozo, is designed to increase knowledge and raise awareness about cancer prevention in all communities.
This Mobile Unit will be offering information on screening, prevention, and healthy living, while continuing to strengthen cancer research in Malta. It is an important project that complements the initiatives and resources already in place to continue to increase the work in the fight against cancer.
Azzopardi Tanti said that this project demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening education and research in this crucial area. He continued to stress the importance of such initiatives in increasing awareness about cancer.
“Cancer remains a global challenge that we are facing, and therefore we must continue to invest in prevention, screening and treatment. Through this Mobile Unit, we will be delivering information directly to people, and encouraging them to take action in favour of their health. The government is continuing to invest in this sector, with funds that this year reached one million euros for cancer research,” concluded the parliamentary secretary.
Prof. Christian Scerri, Chairman of CRIHM, highlighted the crucial role of this initiative. “Research shows that when cancer is detected at an early stage, the survival rate increases significantly. This Mobile Unit will serve as an educational platform to encourage more people to take concrete steps for their health. This is another step towards innovative work that can save lives.”
This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Ħamrun Ħanin, who are offering their support to ensure that this Mobile Unit reaches as many people in the community as possible, through their Sports Unity project. Their commitment and dedication are of great value in this mission of awareness and prevention, particularly in the sports sector.
The Chairman of Ħamrun Ħanin, Ian Debattista, said: “This project is a clear example of what we believe in, that sport can contribute to doing good in the society around us. Through the Sports Unity project, through which Ħamrun Ħanin has united different clubs in our country, we are also showing that there is strength in unity, and we are proud that the first major initiative is precisely one that helps in the fight against cancer”.
