Ġnien Rousset – A larger and greener open space at the heart of the community

Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia

Ġnien Rousset, centrally located in Ħal Kirkop with approximately 2,500 residents, is set to be transformed into a larger and greener open space. With an investment of around €400,000, the Public Works Department will extend the greenery of the existing garden by preserving the mature trees currently planted, while adding more trees to provide natural shade.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia emphasised that this garden, situated in the southern part of Malta and centrally located in Ħal Kirkop, will be transformed into a space whereby seniors and youth can spend quality time together.

Parliamentary Secretary Farrugia added that this urban open space project complements several other open spaces the Public Works Department is working on in the heart of Maltese towns and villages and is part of the Government’s environmental vision.

Ħal Kirkop Mayor Matthew Agius Zammit, while thanking Public Works for their commitment to bringing this project to fruition, highlighted the importance of Ġnien Rousset for the Koppin residents.

This open space, surrounded by the Ħal Kirkop Football Nursery and the San Benedittu Secondary School, will be transformed from an abandoned area into a green space that honours the locality of Ħal Kirkop.

The total regeneration of Ġnien Rousset, named after a small village in the Aix-en-Provence region of France, is a dream of the Koppin community that is set to become a reality.

A few months ago, the Public Works Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the previous Local Council to enable the implementation of this regeneration work.
