The Minister for Health, Jo Etienne Abela, announced that an agreement has been reached with the Medical Association of Malta (MAM) regarding directives it had in place concerning the agreement with three private hospitals to handle non-serious emergency cases. This measure aims to ease the burden on Mater Dei Hospital, especially during this period when respiratory illnesses are on the rise.
MAM had issued directives for doctors to stop transferring patients to private hospitals, disrupting the government’s efforts to address waiting lists. The government consistently appealed for negotiations to continue in the best interest of Maltese and Gozitan patients.
