Prime Minister Robert Abela visits Da Vinci hospital

During a visit to the Da Vinci private hospital, Prime Minister Robert Abela noted initiatives being taken in the health sector that are yielding benefits, also as a result of a partnership between the Government and the private sector. The Prime Minister noted how this hospital was part of the contingency plan that is helping with industrial directives that the Government continues to feel have no place for the patient to suffer. In fact, people who urgently needed to be served by a doctor at the Birkirkara health centre, began to be served by this private hospital.

During the visit, accompanied by the Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, Prime Minister Abela saw the investment made in modern medical equipment, including a new MRI scanner, part of which was jointly financed by European funds and public funds allocated by the Government. The investment from European funds comes from the largest funding package our country has obtained in history, covering between 2021 and 2027.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that the private sector is also benefiting from this largest allocation of European funds for Malta and that the people are benefiting from them. The country is now making use of these funds under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme for 2021-2027, which aims to increase the competitiveness of the European economy by supporting innovation and small and medium-sized businesses.

During his visit to the Radiology Department of Da Vinci Hospital, the Prime Minister saw the MRI equipment that is improving the operational efficiency of the hospital. The Prime Minister also welcomed the private investment that the hospital is making to expand its emergency department, which is currently receiving patients from Mater Dei Hospital to reduce the burden on the Emergency Department. This effort reflects the commitment of the private sector to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable health system in our country.

In discussions with the hospital administration, the Prime Minister emphasized the Government’s commitment to offering more funding opportunities to businesses and enterprises that contribute to the country’s economic growth and public health.

During the visit, the Prime Minister praised the extraordinary work of all the professionals at Da Vinci Hospital who are providing excellent service to patients and improving the quality of life of the Maltese and Gozitans.
